Abandon traditional cosmetics

First of all, to take care of oily skin it is necessary to decide to abandon the traditional cosmetics which is rich in mineral oils, silicones and acrylates, which initially seem to be able to immediately give a dry and silky touch to the skin but which in reality, they limit perspiration and in so doing risk worsening the situation.

Much better to switch to natural cosmetics, choosing specific products and carefully studying the reactions of our skin.

Cleanse oily skin

Although the operation may seem easy and trivial, special attention must be paid to the detergent used for cleaning. A product that is too aggressive, in fact, can act as a stimulus for a further increase in sebaceous production.

The use of excessively degreasing detergents leads, in fact, to the appearance of what is known as the “paradox effect”, a situation in which the sebaceous glands respond to the excessive stimulus suffered by the skin with the increase in sebum production. To avoid this it is much better to use delicate and easily rinsable products , such as light cleansing milks , delicate soaps, lotions formulated with extracts of witch hazel, burdock, lemon balm or aloe vera and preferring a slightly acid pH , around 4.5 and 5, 5, which helps to control the exaggerated secretion of sebum sustained by the sebaceous glands and therefore to limit the shiny effect and the presence of impurities.

Tone oily skin

After cleansing oily skin, you can resort to using a toner.

This must be alcohol-free since alcohol -based products can be irritating to this type of skin, which is already very sensitive.

Normalize the production of sebum

To best take care of our oily skin we must try to reduce this excessive sebaceous secretion. The products capable of normalizing sebum production are obtained by carefully combining some specific ingredients that interfere with its production, while absorbing the excess, and they are:

Absorbent and opacifying ingredients , such as white clay, rice powder or bentonite, which make the sebum less fluid and visibly reduce the shiny-oily effect.

Sebum-regulating or sebum-normalizing ingredients , such as tannins and flavonoids. Tannins have the ability to react with keratin, resulting in a narrowing of the sebaceous ducts and therefore leading to a decrease in sebum production.

Vegetable extracts very rich in tannins are, for example, those of burdock, birch, witch hazel, sage, etc .. The use of these medicinal plants rich in tannins for the care of oily skin, has a double advantage: they not only reduce the production of sebum but also have an activity against free radicals and a decongestant and anti-inflammatory effect, particularly useful in case of acne.
